What is Surya Kriya?

The word “Surya” means “sun,” and “kriya” means “inner energy process.” Traditionally available only to select groups of people, Surya Kriya is being offered through Isha Hatha Yoga and Sadhguru's (Founder of Isha Hatha Yoga) vast knowledge of the yogic sciences. This almost forgotten practice is a comprehensive system which is deeply spiritual at its core but also practical, creating a well-rounded sense of well-being and satisfaction, ideal for the hectic pace of today’s world.

This is a unique and authentic hatha yoga practice that incorporates aspects of yoga known as 'Kriya' (Inner Energy Process). This is what gives this process a spiritual depth and boast in energy compared with other hatha yoga practice. This component of Surya Kriya is what takes this practice further to really make the practice into truly transforming ones experience of themselves and aiding them to reach a higher potential.

Regular practice of Surya Kriya increases ones awareness and balances the whole system including physically, mentally and emotionally. This offers the possibility to help you to live life with ease, without friction, enabling you to glide through life.

This is all possiblle because of the way Surya Kriya works upon one's system by activating the solar plexus to raise the solar energy (Samat Prana) within and making a powerful connection with with your surroundings. Difference between Surya Kriya & Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation)

Up until now, only Surya Namaskar was offered publicly offered. When those who knew the practice saw a need to to help the masses, they could not offer Surya Kriya in its most potent form so they taught Surya Namaskar (sun salutation) which has less potency spiritually but can still offer other benefits such as balancing the system.

Workshop Structure and Timings

This Surya Kriya workshop will be offered in 2 sessions of 3 hours over one weekend. The timing of the sessions are as follows:

  • Saturday - 9.30am-12.30pm

  • Sunday - 9.30am-12.30pm

*Both sessions are mandatory to learn the practice.

Venue 

This course will take place at our very own dedicated studio space in Blackheath. Its just 15 minute train ride from London Bridge station to the door by train. This is the only dedicated Isha Hath Yoga space in the UK and is an energised space geared towards ones ultimate well-being.

The closest station is Westcombe Park station which is just a 3-4 minute walk. You can also jump on the Jubilee Line to North Greenwich tube station and its a 10 minute bus ride and 3 minute walk from the bus stop.

Who is this Workshop Suitable for?

Suitable for all levels of experience from complete beginners to those with experience. The practice will be taught step-by-step as whole with detailed instructions.

Not suitable for ladies who are pregnant or those who have recently gone through major surgery in the last six months.

After the Workshop

Surya Kriya is a home practice and you will learn all the steps in its entirety so that you are able to practice at home on your own. It is a practice which can fit easily into a daily routine with with flexible time commitment but a minimum of 20-30 minutes should be expected. 

About the Teacher

Subhan is one of the most experienced Isha Hatha teachers globally having started volunteering with Sadhguru and his foundation 14 years ago and has been teaching Isha Hatha Yoga teacher for the last six years. He’s spent time with Sadhguru on his trips to Europe and lived at his ashram in India and has been mentored by his senior most monks and teachers.
