What is Isha Hatha Yoga?
The Isha Hatha Yoga method takes a classical approach to yoga meaning its a pure form with no innovations. As this is in line with how yoga was always taught in ancient times. This gives it the effectiveness and profundity that is slowly disappearing in modern day yoga.
From our experience this the most powerful way one can experience yoga and benefit from deep and lasting transformations to reach higher levels of ones potential. However, when something has the power to transform ones life, it needs to be handled with a certain discipline too.
The Classical Approach - Taking Yoga Back to its Roots
The approach to teaching or offering Isha Hatha Yoga is quite different from most modern day yoga you see today. Most approaches to yoga is usually through weekly yoga classes where you join or turn up for an hour or so. With Isha Haha Yoga it works differently. Here you would generally attend a workshop first and learn the practice properly in its entirety. This lays the foundation to continue a regular practice as you will have what you need to practice by yourself at home.
If you really want the practice to become truly effective then it takes time as its not just about learning the practice but also increasing levels of your perception as you learn. There needs to be a level of developing the mind as well and applying it in a certain way. These more subtle aspects are which create the ability to experience the magic of yoga.
We also give you the option to attend regular sessions afterwards, so you will have that option as we hold scheduled regular sessions in our studio space if you wish to come and revisit the practice in an energised space with other people.
Our Workshops
As our workshops are complete teachings so most of them can be done by those with no experience at all. However, some workshops maybe suitable than others depending on what it is you are looking for. Below is a list of workshops you can attend depending on what is required of those participating.
Below are a list of practices that are at the heart of what we do plus some specialised courses to help those with specific needs.
Upa Yoga
Simple but Powerful
Upa Yoga essentially means “sub-yoga” or “pre-yoga”. Because of its many immediate and evident benefits, the word Upa in Indian languages is commonly used to denote “usefulness.”
Upa Yoga is a simple yet powerful system of exercise that activates the joints, muscles, and energy system. Based on a sophisticated understanding of the body’s mechanics, Upa Yoga dispels inertia in the body’s energy and brings ease to the whole system.
Surya Kriya
Sun Innate Energy
Most people have heard of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation), which has been taught widely all over the world. Very few know about Surya Kriya yet this was the original practice from which all other Surya practices came. Due to the potency and powerful connotations of Surya Kriya, it is a practice that needs to be taught carefully as well as learned with a certain level of involvement. Therefore it could traditionally only be offered in closed groups where the necessary dedicated and focused atmosphere could be created. When the intention of sharing with large groups of people came, the practice was modified so that it required less attention. Through the vision of Sadhguru, Isha Hatha Yoga is engineering the revival of this sleeping giant and here at The Hatha Yoga Effect, we are offering it to all. As all classes are taught in a committed atmosphere, we are able to teach this practice with the level of care needed for one to experience it in its full depth.
This potent yogic practice of tremendous antiquity is a holistic process for health, wellness and complete inner wellbeing. As it is a concise and complete practice, it is perfectly suited for the hectic pace of modern life. Sadhguru says it is a way of activating the sun’s energy within the system and balances a person’s energies leading to stability of the body and stillness of the mind.
Angamardana
Body Mastery - Ultimate Yogic Fitness
If you are looking to reach peak physical fitness then Angamardana could be the most suitable practice for you. It is a fitness system rooted in yoga, that offers a complete workout. Usually, fitness means only two aspects: good muscular strength and improving the cardiovascular system. Angamardana incorporates this whilst helping to increase flexibility and improve other systems within the body to provide true fitness.
The word “Angamardana” means gaining complete mastery over the limbs, organs and other parts of the body. It is taught as a series of 31 dynamic processes to invigorate the body and revitalise all the bodily systems, including muscular, skeletal, nervous, circulatory and respiratory systems. It also prepares the body for practicing the deeper Hatha Yoga practices.
Yogasanas
Classic Yogic Postures
The word asana literally means a posture. Out of the innumerable asanas a body can assume, 84 have been identified as Yogasanas, through which one can transform the body and mind into a possibility for ultimate well-being. Yogasanas are not exercises, but rather very subtle processes to manipulate one’s energy in a particular direction.
In an untrained state, the human body is a constant manifestation of various levels of compulsiveness. By consciously forming the body into a certain posture, one creates a conducive passage for energy flow that can elevate one’s consciousness. Here we'll be teaching a sequence of Yogasanas taught in Isha Hatha Yoga to align the system in such a way that you are in sync with your surroundings and can naturally achieve a chemistry of healthfulness, joyfulness, blissfulness, and above all, balance.
